CONTENTdm Introduction

by Lauren Baker

Considered an industry leader in collection management systems, CONTENTdm is proprietary software for building, cataloging, and managing interactive digital collections (Kroski, 2013). It was acquired in 2006 by Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), and it uses the Dublin Core Metadata Element Set, which developed out of an OCLC workshop (Higgins, 2012). It is a common choice for academic libraries, because it works well as a digital repository (Gilbert & Mobley, 2013). CONTENTdm offers integration with WorldCat, allowing local digital collections to be shared on its global platform.
